International Youth Day is an annual event that occurs on August 12th. The occasion is intended to raise awareness and drive action on a range of issues affecting youth globally.
This day offers a platform for governments, organizations, and individuals to collaborate and deliberate on strategies for empowering youth, enhancing their access to education and healthcare, encouraging their involvement in decision-making processes, and tackling challenges like unemployment, poverty, and inequality that often impact young individuals disproportionately.
INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2023: THEME
Every year, International Youth Day centers around a particular theme that addresses crucial challenges encountered by young people.
The theme for International Youth Day in 2023 is 'Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World'.
Youth have the creativity, the potential and the capacity to make change happen – for themselves, for their communities, and for the rest of the world.
We work with young people and are committed to accompany them to work together to drive social innovation and change, participate fully in the development of their societies, eradicate poverty and inequality, and foster a culture of peace.
INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY WAS HISTORY:
The concept of International Youth Day was initially put forth in 1991 during the inaugural session of the World Youth Forum within the United Nations System. Subsequently, in 1998, the Government of Portugal, in collaboration with the United Nations, designated August 12th as International Youth Day during the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth.
