Citizens recognize Nelson Mandela's legacy

How does Mandela Day and Nelson Mandela’s legacy inspire you?

The Mandela Day is celebrated on 18th of July, is a global call to action for citizens of the world to take up the challenge and follow in the formidable footsteps of Madiba, a man who transformed his life, served his country and freed his people. Its objective is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better and in so doing, to build a global movement for good.

On Nelson Mandela International Day, many people decided to spend the day doing healthy things.

Some went to nature to breathe fresh air taking care of plants, others cooked healthy food and spent the day with people close to them, others started selling healthy natural food, others danced, sang and wrote poems and some organized parties.

Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years. The idea behind the annual call to action is to get you and me — and everybody — to get involved in a cause or action that does good, for 67 minutes every July 18th.

It’s an inspiring call and sees people getting out of their offices or homes and linking hands with colleagues, friends and strangers alike to help others, and it’s a call the world needs to heed a lot more as the fight for our future gets going.

The thing is, if you're truly inspired by this call, it's really easy to take it on past the 67 minutes of Madiba's birthday. It also doesn't mean you have to take up a permanent crusade to spend every hour working towards the cause you believe in. For me, it means informing myself about issues that I think are important and discussing them with the people around me, to get a conversation going about much-needed social justice in my country.

For you, it might mean something different though. How does Mandela Day and Nelson Mandela’s legacy inspire you?
