Safu? What is this?

Safu is an African fruit, it appears more in the Congo, Uige province and the northern part of Angola.

How is safu prepared?

Well, put a pan with water on the fire, after boiling, take the pan off the stove and put the safu in the water and cover the pan, wait for five minutes, then take the safu out of the pan and serve it on the plate. We can eat it with cassava, bananas, potatoes, porridge with macaiabo fish and vegetables, etc.

Dacryodes edulis

It is a fruit tree native to Africa, sometimes called safou (Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola), prune (Cameroon), atanga (Equatorial Guinea and Gabon), ube (Nigeria), African pear, bush pear, African plum, nsafu, bush butter tree, or butterfruit.

Nutritional Value 

Safou fruit is an excellent source of vitamins A and C and contains magnesium, potassium, and calcium.

Medicinal uses 

The tree is also a source of many herbal medicines. It has long been used in the traditional medicine of some African countries to treat various ailments such as wounds, skin diseases, dysentery, and fever.
